Sun Valley Ranch
The Food Security Initiative (FSI) began in 2020 as a 73-box pop-up community garden created to address COVID-19 food scarcity. Staff who could not work at the time would plant and tend to the garden. The garden was a safe outdoor place to see others (at a distance), connect with the land, access foods, and build a sense of community.
Over 5 years it has grown into a 22,500 sq ft community farm that grows, distributes, and preserves food for the community, while running weekly education programs and pop-up markets.
Since 2020, FSI has weathered a wildfire evacuation, regional flooding, a site relocation, and staffing gaps, while growing food output vastly, turning from a one-year pop-up garden to over 14,000 lb of produce and proteins distributed annually.
