Language Nest

The OKIB Language Nest is an early childhood language immersion program for children ages 1 to 3. Through daily interaction with fluent speakers, Elders, and dedicated staff, children are immersed in nsyilxcən while learning through play, cultural activities, songs, stories, and everyday experiences. The program provides a nurturing environment that supports language revitalization while fostering a strong connection to Syilx culture, tradition, and identity.
Program Details
For children ages 1-3 years
Tuesday to Friday. 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Full nsyilxcən language immersion
Daily instruction from fluent speakers and Elders

Registration for the Language Nest Program typically opens in August. Please watch for registration announcements and open house information. If you are inquiring during the school year (Sept–Jun), please contact the Language Nest Coordinator regarding current availability.

Research shows that children from the ages 0-3 are in the most developmental period for language learning. The Language Nest provides children with an immersive nsyilxcən learning environment where they hear and experience the language naturally through daily interaction with staff, Elders, and fluent speakers.
No. There is no cost to families whose children are accepted into the program.
