Emergency Preparedness Program
If this is an Emergency, Call 911
The Okanagan Indian Band Emergency Preparedness Program supports the community in preparing for, responding to, and recovering from emergencies. The program works to ensure OKIB is ready to respond to events such as wildfires, flooding, severe weather, and other emergencies that may affect the community.
The program focuses on planning, coordination, and community awareness to help reduce risks and strengthen emergency readiness. This includes developing emergency response plans, coordinating with regional partners and other agencies, and providing information to help Members prepare their households for potential emergencies.
During an emergency, the program supports the coordination of response efforts and helps ensure community members receive timely information and assistance when needed. By focusing on preparedness and planning, the program helps strengthen community resilience and protect the safety and well-being of OKIB Members.
FireSmart Program
FireSmart is a Canada-wide program that helps communities reduce the risk of wildfire by promoting practical steps that protect homes, neighbourhoods, and community infrastructure.
At the Okanagan Indian Band, the FireSmart Program works with community members to reduce wildfire risk through education, prevention, and fuel management. The program supports actions such as improving defensible space around homes, sharing wildfire preparedness information, and helping the community better understand and reduce wildfire hazards.
By supporting FireSmart principles at the local level, OKIB is helping strengthen community safety and resilience in the face of increasing wildfire risk across the region.
